So, what’s up with Glen Ellen? It would appear that the magazine “The Best Restaurants In The Whole Wide World” must have published an article that said if you are awesome at what you do then you should move to Sonoma Valley and open a restaurant in Glen Ellen. Because they are…and they are.
Glen Ellen is quickly becoming the go to place in the Sonoma Valley to enjoy some of the best restaurants in the country, yep, I said it…country. About a half mile south of Glen Ellen you will find the Jack London Village, a small grouping of shops and restaurants that are housed in some of the oldest buildings in the Sonoma Valley. The village has quite the history, let’s take a quick look.
The old Grist Mill is probably the most prominent building in the village with it’s large water wheel. It was built as a saw mill in 1839 by old timer General Vallejo. But hey, let’s just get to the good stuff. Our pal Jack London had his mistress living in the upstairs area of the old mill and it would appear that he must have received some “inspiration”, because he wrote two of his novels in the space.
The Jack London Village has been home to some pretty cool events. Valley of The Moon Recording opened up a recording studio in the 1970’s and has hosted some pretty amazing musicians over the years. Icons like Janis Joplin, Van Morrison and Metallica. Let’s be real, any place Metallica has been is a place I need to be.
Within the next week there is going to be a new place to pull up a chair and enjoy some great food. That place is called Aventine Glen Ellen. They have been quietly but feverishly working on the old grist mill building, turning it into something pretty amazing.
Look, can we be honest? There are a lot of amazing places to eat in the Sonoma Valley, heck there are quite a few right in Glen Ellen itself. So what makes Aventine stand out and shoot to the top of your must do list? It’s the fact that they really do have it all….ya, all!
- A track record of great food and happy people. They have very successful locations in San Francisco and Hollywood.
- A full bar and they make beer on site…need I say more?
- An authentic and historic interior with a great vibe. Heck they even have the old water wheel spinning again!
- An amazing outdoor patio with seating right on top of the Sonoma Creek!
Are you hard core? Need a few more reasons to come check it out, here you go..bam!
- Taste Tuesdays: – Free bar bites and happy hour all night long.
- Wine Wednesdays: – A featured list of great wines that are half off per bottle.
- Live Thursdays: – You guessed it, live music!
Bottom line, it’s all here and it’s all good…NO, it’s really, really good! So there you go, pop on over to Glen Ellen, of course you better have some Metallica raging on your playlist and make a stop into Aventine. Say hello and help welcome them to the most special place on earth. Your Sonoma Valley.
