If you ever need physical evidence of small town amazingness, then just come to Sonoma on the 4th of July. If you do, and you should, you will experience a number of things that will completely ruin your future expectations for what a 4th of July party should and could be..just say’n.
The Sonoma Plaza Parade
So, when I was a kid we would park our truck in front of Steiner’s bar the night before the parade, my sister and I would go play in the park while my folks would go into Steiner’s to get the “parking permit” wink-wink.
Nowadays, 6am on July 4th is the earliest you can claim a spot…and that would be a chair or blanket. Cars or trucks..forget about it! But here’s the deal, put in a little effort and you are going to see the ultimate hometown parade! I was in the parade as a kid. Both of my boys were in the parade growing up (I’m definitely a fan of water balloons and water guns on the little league float..just throwing that out there) Bottom line, get there. It is a fond memory you will have for the rest of your life.
The Sonoma Plaza Party
It just comes back to one simple fact, you just need to experience it. Where do I start, ok here…you can drink wine and beer in the Sonoma Plaza. We’re adults here, let’s just be honest..:) Between the live bands, the local artists displaying and selling their amazing work, the local micro-brews, local wine, local cheese and of course all of the amazing food…you just can’t go wrong!
The Sonoma Valley Fireworks Show
It’s epic. What else can I say, right?! So, close your eyes and imagine a warm summer night in the most beautiful valley in the world. You just had the most amazing day ever watching a nostalgic hometown parade while drinking a Bloody Mary. Then you head out to eat more delicious food and of course have some additional cocktails. Now the sun is starting to set and it’s time to slow down and relax. It’s time to snuggle in with your kids, spouse or friends and lay out a blanket to watch a fireworks show that is way beyond what would be expected from a little town of ten thousand people. 17 years ago I kissed my girlfriend who is now my wife at that fireworks show..it works, try it.
A Big Thank You.
This amazing series of events that takes place on the 4th of July doesn’t just happen. There are so many people and sponsors to thank for making this day so special for all of the local residents and visitors that choose to enjoy the day in Sonoma. If I was to start thanking people or companies individually it would go on for ever and I know I would leave out names left and right. So here is a big THANK YOU to everyone that works so hard to help make the 4th of July such an amazing event in the Sonoma Valley.
